Healthcare System

Romania offers benefits of a universal healthcare system. The Ministry of Health of Romania is required to manage and supervise the public healthcare sector. The access to healthcare is guaranteed by Article 34 in the Constitution of Romania: the state is obliged “to guarantee the sheltering of healthcare”. The health care system in Romania is mainly public. This means that every taxpayer in Romania has free access to health care in the public hospitals. The private health care system is starting to grow slowly but in matter of hospitals it has not yet reached a very important level.

Currency

Romania uses the Romanian Leu as its national currency.

Cuisines

Romanian cuisine has a lot of tasty food, both salty and sweet. Sarmale are cabbage rolls, filled with mined meat, rice and spices. Mamaliga, or polenta, is very common in Romania. Sometimes it is eaten like a side dish (with sarmale, for example), or instead of bread, and sometimes it is eaten as a main course, with cheese and sour cream. Mititei, or mici are small meat rolls which are cooked on the grill at each barbeque. Papanasi are kind of doughnuts which contain cottage cheese, and are served with our cream and jam on top.

Transportation

There are good connections on railway between all the main cities in Romania, and of course between Bucharest and every city as well. There are also international trains that reach Romania in different train stations like Oradea, Cluj-Napoca, Targu-Mures, Brasov, Bucharest and others. However, you must pay attention because trains are often late when reaching their destinations.

     There are a lot of private bus companies that connect the cities in Romania as well as Romanian cities with other European cities. However, a car-ride may take longer than expected due to the lack of highways, and trains are usually more comfortable than buses.
