PEPH Talk 2020
October 1, 20206 KEUNTUNGAN BAGI IBU MENYUSUI
October 30, 2020The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the entire world, including Indonesia, raises various reproductive health issues that need more attention.
Based on the explanation from UNICEF and UNFPA, there are several things related to menstruation that are confused with COVID-19. Hoaxes had spread up in the community regarding this pandemic. In addition, the pandemic has also caused limited access to menstrual hygiene supplies for women. False information also appears to affect pregnant women. According to the Journal of Women and Birth, entitled Perinatal Mental Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, discusses issues related to the accessibility of pregnant women to the outside environment which is one of the reasons for increased perinatal distress. Changes to the antenatal care system also need to be conveyed more broadly.
In September 2019, members of the Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities Universitas Gadjah Mada (CIMSA UGM) took the initiative to carry out an online project with the webinar concept. The webinars were given within 2 series.
SCORA THE SERIES 1 with the title Menstrual Hygiene on Youth and Adolescence during COVID-19 Pandemic which was held through the Zoom Meeting by inviting representatives from UNFPA, dr. Sandeep Nanwani, MMSc, as Program Officer for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health UNFPA Indonesia. The activity was carried out on Saturday, September 12, 2020 and filled with material presentation and interactive discussions between participants and the speaker.
On the next day, the activity was continued with SCORA THE SERIES 2 entitled Antenatal Care and Maternal Mental Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic Period. The event this time was aimed at educating pregnant and breastfeeding mothers through material presentation and discussion. The material was given very systematically by dr. Diannisa Ikarumi Enisar Sangun, Sp.O.G. as a representative of Indonesian Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology (POGI) Yogyakarta and Arina Megumi Budiani, M.Psi., as a psychologist from ibunda.id.
Finally, the activity was closed with SCORA THE SERIES 3 as the celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month which was celebrated every October around the world. The activity was carried out with a 3-days challenge on 2 – 4 October 2020 by opening a volunteer program for social media users of all ages and professions, in order to spread information and awareness about breast cancer.
To increase public awareness, SCORA CIMSA UGM feels the need to provide education about early detection of breast cancer. Global Cancer Observatory data published by WHO in May 2019 stated that the prevalence of cancer in Indonesia is still very high. Of the total 188,231 new cancer cases in women during the past year, 30.9% came from breast cancer. This cancer is also the most common cancer in women. Therefore, in regards to the general information, SCORA CIMSA UGM and Love Pink Indonesia partnered to publish a video on IGTV which includes the step for the early detection of breast cancer (SADARI). Volunteers are also given a handbook with the hope that the information provided during this event can be spread out to the wider community.
