Diseases have no boundaries without a single care in the world as to which nation they will infect, they simply just infect. Along with the pandemic progression, we have to think about the global health aspect of it and how we as a society can help in this situation.
With the pandemic being a prime example of how we as a society could try to achieve global health equity while working from home, SCOPE CIMSA UGM decided to host a public poster competition and a talk show on the role of telemedicine in the pandemic. The public poster competition had an open registration period from September 29 – October 10, 2021 meanwhile the talk show had an open registration period from October 22 – October 29, 2021. The winners of the public poster competition were awarded prize money as well as e-certificates from SCOPE CIMSA UGM. The winners of the public poster competition are from Gadjah Mada University as the 1st and 3rd winner and from Islamic University of Indonesia as the 2nd winner. The talk show was held on October, 29 and hosted 3 marvelous and wonderful speakers; dr. M. Lutfan Lazuardi, M.Kes., Ph.D. from FMPHN UGM, dr. Fedri Ruluwedrata Rinawan, M.Sc.PH, Ph.D as a founder of iPosyandu, and dr. Guntur Surya Alam Sp. B, Sp. BA (K), MPH, FICS, FAACT from IDI Wilayah DIY. The talk show was moderated by dr. Nadya Stefani Andhika who was also the former NEO for Outgoing CIMSA for the term 2017/2018. We also announced the winners of the public poster competition after the talk show has concluded.
With these 3 respected and great speakers, we discussed a lot about how telemedicine is an innovation that is actually helping and benefiting the people rather than affecting them negatively. This perspective of thinking could really allow us to understand how something like telemedicine, in contrast to what many people think of it, is a light at the end of a long tunnel.
With the completion of this activity, we hope that people would understand more about the role of telemedicine during the pandemic and how it is actually increasing the accessibility to healthcare in a time where leaving the house, unless for necessities, is not recommended.
