SCORE CIMSA UGM aims to plant seeds of the passion for research into society, starting from their own members. On 19th November 2021, SCORE CIMSA UGM held a research training for their new members called SCORE Goes Public 1 (SGP1). SGP1 focuses on the basics of research and how to analyze data accordingly. The event had 2 training sessions given by Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics Unit Team UGM (CEBU UGM). The representatives are:
- Dr. dr. Rizaldy T. Pinzon, Sp.S, M.Kes on “The Basics of Research”, and
- Ms. Dewi Ismimasitoh on “Management of Data and Statistics”, “Linear Regression and Logistics”,and “Parametric-Nonparametric Statistics”.
Before the session started all the participants filled out the pre-test form then, Dr. dr. Rizaldy T. Pinzon, Sp.S, M.Kes open the training sessions bringing the topic on basics of research. He talked about the importance of research and tips on how to form a comprehensive and concise proposal. Here, we discussed the difference between various types of research, such as cohort studies and case reviews, also went deeper into each aspect of the proposal, such as methodology, hypothesis, etc.
Then, we moved on to Ms. Dewi Ismimasitoh with a training on management of data and statistics, linear regression & logistics, and parametric-nonparametric statistics. There we stepped into the world of statistics and data analysis. We learned the nicks and nacks of statistics, from the basic variables and samples to the complex hypothesis testing.
Afterwards, we give the new members a chance to work on their skills by focus group discussion facilitated by the committees. There, each member was able to sharpen their critical thinking and form a basic research proposal that they would present in front of everyone. The new members were enthusiastically brainstorming ideas, finding a way to comprehensively create a proper foundation for each of their proposals, including methodology, reasoning, and literature to back it all up. After they present their ideas, both of our speakers would give feedback personally to further improve their skills. SCORE Goes Public 1 ends with the participants filling the post-test and taking pictures of the event.
We hope this event would spark a deep passion for research and harbor the skills of SCORE’s new members so that they can use them to serve their communities.
