KUMBANG x KENYANG ― 2nd Intervention

KUMBANG x KENYANG  (Kakak Tumbuh Kembang Untuk Keseimbangan Gizi Anak Tersayang) is a community development activity from SCOPH CIMSA UGM which aims to increase public awareness, both health cadres and parents, on child growth and development issues through screening programs and providing education at the community level. This activity was carried out based on the data that showed that the city of Yogyakarta was reported to have a lower child development index than the national average. We conducted this activity with two main agendas, which were pre-project training and intervention.

SCOPH CIMSA UGM held the pre-project training session for KUMBANG x KENYANG in two days. On the first day, January 22, 2021, the training was conducted online and attended by the members of SCOPH CIMSA UGM batch 2021 and the activity’s volunteers. There were two trainers involved in this training, M. Irsyad Adhiana Tanjung, CIMSA UGM Public Health Leader, who brought the topic on Basic Public Health, and dr. Zulfikar Ihyauddin who brought the subject on child’s growth and development. This activity aimed to provide participants with the knowledge and basics that support intervention activities. On the second day, January 23, 2022, the members of SCOPH CIMSA UGM and the activity’s volunteers did a medical check-up training. This training includes blood pressure measurement and glucose-cholesterol-uric acid (GCU) measurement. This activity was guided by Patricia Aline as CIMSA UGM Public Health Leader.

SCOPH CIMSA UGM held its 2nd intervention of KUMBANG x KENYANG on January 30, 2022. The intervention was held in four integrated health care centers simultaneously. This activity was carried out offline by adhering to strict health protocols. The intervention activities consisted of educational sessions and QnA sessions. SCOPHEROES and volunteers from CIMSA UGM delivered an educational session about children’s growth, nutritional balance in children, clean and healthy life behavior, and the introduction of stunting for the community members (parents with children under 6-year-old and health cadres). This session aimed to add insight to parents regarding the importance of growth and development for children’s health.

We also held free medical check-ups for the parents and local people.  This examination was carried out as an early detection of non-communicable diseases and to increase awareness about the importance of healthy living in Yogyakarta. Hopefully, this event can contribute to improving child growth in the city of Yogyakarta and bring sustainable benefits for all parties involved.
