ATTENTION (Avoiding Tuberculosis with Prevention and Education) is one of CIMSA UGM’s community development with teenagers and young adults members that whose age are ranging from 17 to 27 years old. Our community targets are from Kecamatan Gondomanan since it has the highest prevalence of tuberculosis cases in Yogyakarta (0.25%). The purpose of this community development is to prevent increasing numbers of tuberculosis in the community by helping teenagers and young adults of the Kecamatan Gondomanan to educate themselves and the whole community at Kecamatan Gondomanan about tuberculosis.
After 2nd intervention, we realized that we have to enhance their self-confidence and education skills so they can become tuberculosis cadres who are able to overcome the tuberculosis problem in Yogyakarta. Therefore, on March 25, 2022, we held our 3rd intervention on an online platform with several activities to enhance the education skills and confidence of the cadres, such as recalling sessions from the first two interventions and “How to Win and Influence People” training by Setya Atsil which is an IFMSA expert trainer & public health leader. After our 3rd intervention, we also held a door-to-door campaign on April 1, 2022, in Kecamatan Gondomanan with the ATTENTION’s participants. Our focus in this door-to-door campaign is to educate Kecamatan Gondomanan residents about tuberculosis.
Before we held our intervention, we held a Pre-Project Training on March 24 that consisted of a training session for the organizing committee with pre-test, post-test, and bonding sessions. Our 3rd intervention was started by giving a recalling session and followed by a pre-test session. After that, we also had a training session from IFMSA expert trainer, Setya Atsil, with a role-play session. Then, the intervention ended with a post-test and documentation. For our door-to-door campaign, we started with a small briefing, and then we started our door-to-door campaign for 105 minutes with pre-test and post-test. Lastly, we ended our day with evaluation and documentation.
During the intervention, the community were so excited to learn and actively participate in the activities. Also in the door-to-door campaign, we found out that the Kecamatan Gondomanan residents are so eager to learn some new knowledge about tuberculosis. Following this intervention and door-to-door campaign, we hope that both the ATTENTION’s participants and Kecamatan Gondomanan residents can apply the knowledge, skills, and experience they’ve received to prevent the increasing tuberculosis numbers in Yogyakarta.
