Earth Day is celebrated internationally every April 22 each year. Its main theme for this year is “Invest in Our Planet”. As more than seven billion people inhabit Earth, this planet is demanding our help. Therefore, with dedication and hardwork, CIMSA UGM conducted an event called CERTREEFICATE.
CERTREEFICATE is an event developed since the start of the 2021—2022 tenure. Seeing CIMSA UGM always strive to give an impact by conducting activity with various methods, the officials of CIMSA UGM 2021/2022 think, “What if, we exchange all of the certificates that we gave for speakers, moderator, volunteers, participants, and other contributors, with mangrove trees?”. We try to make this idea evolve into something much more significant. Conducting in total 28 spectacular activities, we managed to give 3.117 certificates to all parties involved.
A collaboration with Teens Go Green ID and Lindungi Hutan has made CERTREEFICATE come into life. In order to give more impact and inspire more of Indonesian youth on this Earth Day, CERTREEFICATE started with the very eye-opening discussion through IG Live on CIMSA UGM Instagram talking about “Youth Role in Climate Change Mitigation and Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals 13” with Rizky Fadilah as the Co-Coordinator Event Teens Go Green ID which gains so much attraction. We try to amplify our voice by creating an open donation and successfully obtained Rp5.260.000,00 from all the donors.
As we try to find the best place to cultivate our mangroves, we finally determine a perfect place to plant them. We decided to plant it on Tambakrejo coast, Semarang, since they are always affected by the tidal flood because of the tremendous amount of garbage.
With love and pride, we finally exchanged all of the donations that we get to the 526 mangrove trees. In other words, every 6 certificates we gave are equal to one mangrove tree. We plant it on Tambakrejo coast along with the Earth Day celebration on 22 April. It has been an honor for CIMSA UGM to be a part of this effort to invest in our environment. Hopefully, this event can have a lasting impact on all parties involved in this activity.
