About

Medebate (Medical English Debate) 2020 is dedicated to improve medical students’ global perspective and insight by generating effective critical thinking. In this modern society, students are expected to be able to elaborate and properly convey their arguments. Therefore, those who are studying in the medical field need to enhance their knowledge about bioethical issues in medicine worldwide.

It is important for medical students to find the right place to develop formal communication and argumentative skills. Therefore, we; SCOPE, SCORE, and SCOME CIMSA UGM, join hands to create Medebate, an annual competition for medical students to deliver critical thinking through debating. Besides debate competition, participants will have the opportunity to join the Grand Lecture with hopes of broadening their global insight of bioethical issues.

Medebate is one of the manifestations of CIMSA’s tagline: “Empowering Medical Students”. CIMSA UGM has high hopes for Medebate to success in promoting the importance of communication skills by instigating critical thinking through the discussion of bioethical issues. Last but not least, we encourage medical students to become more active and further qualified to support the improvement and advancement of medical expertise in Indonesia.

Grand Theme

BIOETHICAL ISSUE

As medical technology advances at a rapid pace, health care professionals are tasked with examining the resulting ethical dilemmas. This is where bioethics comes in. By applying the principles of ethics to the field of medicine, bioethics aims to investigate and study how health care decisions are made. It is a core component of ensuring that medical practices and procedures benefit society as a whole.

Bioethics has applications ranging from birth to the end of life, and it directly affects both patients and care providers. Bioethics has an impact on every level of human community from the local nursing home to the huge international conferences on issues like the Human Genome, it is full of difficult ethical questions for everybody: families, hospitals, governments and civilization.
